The Spartan Race: Do you have what it takes?

If you have never heard of it, The Spartan Race is one of the world’s largest, toughest and most extreme obstacle courses. It is open to anyone who likes a challenge and is split into three different courses varying in difficulty and length. Every year the course travels all around the world and this October it is coming to the shores of Barcelona, closely followed by Valencia in November.

The courses on offer range from the Sprint which is 5km long and contains about 15 obstacles, to the Super, 13km containing 20 obstacles and then finally, the extreme, Beast race which is 20km long and typically includes 25 obstacles. If you are feeling particularly adventurous then you can take part in all three, the Trifecta! This year the only opportunity to do this in Spain is in Barcelona as there will no Beast race in either Valencia or Madrid, so make sure you check out all of the details before planning your trip.

Even if you have already done a Spartan Race in your country why not try out the course in another part of the world adding a different climate to the challenge. Each race is different consisting of a carefully selected range of obstacles. These can be anything from rope climbs to fire jumps and spear throwing. Competitors, known as Spartans put everything into these obstacles because if they are not completed to the standard expected by the competition a penalty of 30 burpees is implemented!

The race will first come to Les Comes, Súria (Barcelona) on October the 10th and 11th and then will move to La Muela zone of Valencia on the 28th of November. 80% of the area used for the course in Valencia will be military ground which the Ministry of defence has authorised the use of for the Spartan Race. The location is perfect for this type of race as some of the obstacles are inspired by the training carried out by the armed services. Do you have what it takes?
