PARK GUELL | BARCELONA
PARK GUELL | BARCELONA
The PARK GUELL (Catalan = Parc Güell) was designed by Antoni Gaudí i Cornet was built between 1900 and 1914.
The very first idea of this was to project a single family residential, this project, as it first idea, ultimately failed and consequently became municipal property since 1923 and so it became a public park, located in the upper part of Barcelona.
At the main entrance there are two administrative buildings, which are some of the most famous icons of barcelona, due to its forms (designed in the same shape as a mushroom) and the "trencadis" (coating surfaces with irregular mosaic fragments, which was then widely used in Modernism) that cover booth roofs.
As soon as you get in the park of the PARK GÜELL a double staircase divided by a dragon mosaic, reach a pillared hall of considerable dimensions with 86 massive Doric columns supporting the great plaza of the park. On the ceiling of this room you can see colored panels, drawed by Josep Maria Jujol.
The above square is a beautiful balcony with views over Barcelona and the sea.The square is bounded by an undulating bench covered with trencadís. This large square is used for cultural and popular festivals. All the main activities at the PARK GÜELL is organized around this central square.
The entire garden is served by unpaved roads or footpaths, going through these pathways is an extraordinary pleasure, allowing you to enjoy the nature while you can see all the details of this exceptional work and also enjoy stunning views from Barcelona.
The entrace to the Park Guell is free.
